Assistive Technology

At Wendell Foster, we believe everyone should have access to the tools that make life easier and more independent.

Our Assistive Technology & Resource Center helps people discover and access technology that supports daily living, communication, mobility, and more.

We’re proud to be part of the Kentucky Assistive Technology Services (KATS) Network. The KATS Network’s mission is to make assistive technology (AT) information, devices, and services accessible to Kentuckians with disabilities.

What is Assistive Technology?

Assistive Technology includes any tool, device, or system—big or small—that helps people with disabilities gain independence and participate fully in everyday life. This can include communication devices, adapted computer equipment, switches, environmental controls, mobility aids, and much more.

Our Services

  • Lending Library: Try out assistive devices before making a decision to purchase, borrow equipment while yours is being repaired, or use items for short-term needs.
  • Reutilization Program (Project CARAT): Find gently used equipment at no cost or donate items you no longer need to help someone else.
  • Device Demonstrations: Compare features of similar devices to find what works best for you.
  • Ramp Up Kentucky: Borrow portable aluminum ramps on a short-term basis to make your home accessible.
  • Training: Build your confidence and knowledge with our informal and professional AT training opportunities.

Whether you’re exploring assistive technology for the first time or looking for specific support, our AT Team is here to help you find the right solutions.
