OWENSBORO, KENTUCKY – Wendell Foster, a local 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving people with disabilities, will be hosting their annual Special Needs Expo on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Owensboro Convention Center.
The Special Needs Expo is an opportunity for community agencies to provide information about resources and services that will assist families in supporting a loved one with a disability. The Expo will include non-profit organizations, state agencies, and private businesses that provide services in the following areas: adult day training, advocacy and support, assistive technology, autism services, behavior supports, durable medical equipment, early intervention, education, future planning, health and rehab, recreation, residential services, supported employment, and waivers.
“Supporting a loved one with a disability requires a knowledge of community resources,” said Cindy Huston, Director of the Assistive Technology and Resource Center at Wendell Foster. “The Special Needs Expo is a great networking opportunity for parents and guardians to connect with professionals on those resources and support one another.”
This year’s Expo features a “Fun Zone”, with activities for attendees such as basketball, mini golf, balloon animals, arts and crafts, and more. Holes to Go, a portable mini golf service in Owensboro, is setting up their mini golf course, and volunteers from Hockey Heroes will teach attendees how to play hockey. Huston said the Fun Zone is designed for individuals of all abilities to enjoy. “It’s the perfect way to take a break from exploring all the valuable resources at the Expo,” she added.
There is no charge or registration required to attend, and door prize drawings will be held throughout the day.
