Volunteer Opportunities

Community Companions

Community Companions empower individuals with developmental disabilities through evening or weekend 45-minute visits, one or two times per week to broaden common interests through conversation and participation in shared interests/hobbies to develop long-term friendships and camaraderie.

We have several individuals who are seeking to share their interests and hobbies with you!
What interests do you have in common with them?

Autism Program

Volunteer in the Autism Department’s After School, Summer, and/or Teen & Young Adult and Parent Night Out Programs.  Gain knowledge and experience volunteering with those who have Autism.  Do crafts, facilitate learning, go on outings in the community, and supervise students from ages 5 and up.  The program is based on social learning and appropriate play and behavior skills.  Lots of active fun!

Group Activities

Join a small group that shares common interests and hobbies you have – birds of a feather flock together!

Develop and facilitate (with staff or independently) simple creative craft projects for 2-4 Cottage individuals who enjoy crafts, and expressing themselves through craftwork. Craft activities may include, but are not limited to, construction cut-outs, ornament or card making, small stocking gifts, cottage decorating, etc. Craft supplies, within reason, are provided with advanced notice.

Share your passion for reading by reading to a small group of individuals books they enjoy in the following genres: Tween/Young Girl (ex. Twilight series, books by Jane Austen or Nicholas Sparks, Lion, Witch & the Wardrobe series, Harry Potter books, etc.); adventure (ex. Princess Bride, Tolkien’s books, Harry Potter series, CS Lewis); anything young adults enjoy.

Support individuals with a passion for Karaoke!* Visit Campus Cottage to practice Karaoke songs with club members once a week or every other week, then join them at TGI Friday’s** on Wednesday Karaoke nights to encourage, socialize and facilitate their involvement and fun. Cheer them on, sing along as a duet, and have fun!

*Volunteers must be 21 and older.
**TGI Friday’s is a smoke-free bar/restaurant.

Special Events

We have many special events throughout the year that need lots of volunteers. Check out our events page to see where you might log a few community service hours, and have a ton of fun while you do it!
