Wendell Foster Partnering with Chamber Young Professionals to Host First Responders BBQ

OWENSBORO, KENTUCKY – Wendell Foster, a local agency serving people with disabilities, is partnering with the Chamber Young Professionals (CYP) to host its fifth annual First Responders BBQ at Wendell Foster’s Sensory Park on Thursday, July 20, from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. The event honors local first responders in Owensboro and Daviess County. All first responders in the area are invited to a cookout with free lunch, complimentary ice cream from Old Fashioned Ice Cream & Concessions, yard games, and door prizes.

CYP gives an opportunity for professionals 40 years and younger to network and educate themselves on important issues facing the Greater Owensboro area. The group, an affiliate of the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce, participates in community service projects, social events, corporate tours, and professional development. Jake Boswell, Vice Chair of CYP, said the group aims to provide solutions to important issues affecting the community. CYP members will have the opportunity to interact with first responders at the BBQ to discuss the issues that are important to them. “As young professionals, our goal is to learn as much as possible about the community we call home, work to help it grow, and keep local talent here presently and for the next generation,” Boswell explained.

Boswell expressed his excitement in the group’s partnership with Wendell Foster for the event. “CYP is excited for the opportunity to recognize the service our first responders provide to our families every day. We’re also humbled to partner with an accomplished organization like Wendell Foster, who has raised the quality of life for so many in Owensboro and beyond for decades. An exceptional partnership like this is a great connection for CYP,” said Boswell.

Wendell Foster created the First Responders BBQ in 2018 with the goal of uniting Wendell Foster care recipients and staff with first responders they may typically only see on a work-related basis. Doug Hoyt, CEO at Wendell Foster, shared, “First responders serve our community each and every day. Wendell Foster is excited to have the opportunity to serve them lunch as a way to say “Thank You” for that service.” Hoyt also shared his enthusiasm at the organization’s partnership with CYP. “This year, I am also excited that we are partnering with the Chamber Young Professionals. CYP’s participation in the First Responders BBQ enhances this event and confirms that it is appropriate to honor these men and women,” stated Hoyt.

RSVP is not required to attend the cookout. Wendell Foster and CYP are looking forward to honoring the men and women serving our local community and showing appreciation for the sacrifices they make each day.
